Providing a safe, injury-free work environment for everyone, whether on the jobsite or in the office, is one of our core operating principles. We know these principles guide the attitude, character and behavior of our people. A culture of safety survives when we make it a part of our daily actions, from jobsite laborers to senior management.

Commitment to Safety

Our goal is to send every worker home, every day, injury free. The success of our safety and health program is a result of our commitment—through ongoing education, rigorous activity pre-plan ning, job specific safety analysis plans, and accountability from every construction team member. And we’ve been succeeding. Since 2004 our incident rate has fallen significantly.

Cornerstone has developed a comprehensive safety program. The success of this program rests on our zero accidents culture. All employees, from the company President to a newly hired apprentice, view safety as our highest priority. The foundation of our safety culture rests on the following principles:

• Provide training to achieve excellent safety performance;
• Partner with O.S.H.A. and other agencies to ensure no regulatory deficiencies;
• Develop project-specific safety plans that are fluid to meet changing needs;
• Demonstrate model performance in our industry.

Drugs and Alcohol Clean Card

We participate in the Alaska clean card program for drug and alcohol testing program. All employees are subject to pre-employment testing and subsequent random testing. Our workers show up to the project sites pre-screened and able to work and continue to be drug and alcohol free. Owners, home-office and management staff as well as craft – no one is exempt from random testing.

Safety Awards & Recognition

Cornerstone was honored by The State of Alaska, receiving the “Governor’s Safety Award of Excellence.” We have also received recognition by the US Army Corps of Engineers for our excellent safety record and have been nominated for several AGC safety awards over the years. Cornerstone enjoys some of Alaska’s lowest insurance rates because of our exemplary safety record. This can translate into significant project cost savings.
