Planning ways to ensure that the facilities can continue to function, while the project stays on time and on budget requires a team willing to communicate, listen and re-deploy based on facility users’ needs. It takes a team skilled in problem solving and willing to take that extra step to ensure that facilities can remain operational. Cornerstone prepares disruption plans with detailed assessment of interim life safety issues and protection of the construction workers as well as the building users and visitors. Controls for contaminants, noise, dust, traffic, ventilation, critical barriers, signage, waste disposal, worker protections, and utilities interruptions are evaluated and addressed. We have specific procedures for communication among various agencies regarding how to maintain safe public and worker access, coordinate utility disruptions, and direct traffic flow as well as other items that might affect ongoing operations.

Because a large number of our projects over the years have included construction in critical facilities while those facilities remained operational, we understand the need for flexibility, project first thinking and a strong understanding of not only the how but also the why of the disruption planning. While much of the planning takes place at the start of a project, and can even be designed into the project from the start, the plan is always a fluid entity, easily changed to meet changing parameters.
